Problems with microsoft mouse 3000

I tried changing the battery; I tried pushing in the small white connect button on the bottom of the mice several times and nothing happened. Is the mouse defective?

I've read where other people have had problems with this mouse's driver not working correctly in Win7, but I've also read posts where people say there is a driver specifically for Win7 which I can't find. When I try to scroll in things like CDisplay or other programs, the mouse won't scroll properly.

It will either not scroll at all or will require me to act like I'm scrolling VERY fast to move a small distant on the actual page. Has this been fixed yet? I know I read that the problem only seems to be present with Microsoft Mice, so I thought they'd have taken care of it asap but I still read posts where people have problems with them.
