Pdf printer not found
The impacted servers cannot install any Type4 drivers and display Element not Found. Rolling back the updates resolves the issue, but given the recent print spooler exploits, this is not an option. It would appear that for whatever reason, at some point installing the latest updates is causing the print to pdf or some other built-in driver to become corrupt. I think this is a different problem.
This is caused by the printnightmare fix that Microsoft deployed. There are GPO entries that can be set to override the new "fix" but the turn the vulnerability back on.
I worked aroung this by only allowing driver instalation from within my forest. Hi, 1. There is a similar thread in QA forum that the user finally choose higher version of another PDF printer as workaround. What is the patched KB that has broken the PDF printer and you could post the details in user voice forum for the product team to check further. As far as option 2 is concerned, we do not have a second installed PDF printer.
I will be testing which exact update is breaking the drivers and then relay that message to the user voice forum. Hi Luke, Thanks for the update. It is appreciated for you to update the KB details here and we would like to test in VMs and reproduce your issue if possible. Sorry for the delayed response. I was waiting for the January patches to see if the issue would resolve itself.
Unfortunately, it did not, but we have captured the patch that seems to be causing the issue. Per testing, once we uninstall KB, the print to PDF along with all other type 4 printers , begin to work again. We're seeing the same thing here. Sometimes, you don't see a dialog that allows you to save the PDF file to a specific directory. This issue is mostly related to Microsoft Edge because Edge sometimes automatically saves PDF documents to the default directory.
Microsoft Edge stores the saved PDF file in the UserDocuments folder automatically, so ensure that you check it as well. Sometimes, there are some empty PDF files when you save them to the Documents folder, but you can change the output directory to fix the issue. However, there are many alternative options to print images and documents as PDF files, then why we still want to get back this feature?
Before we try some more advanced tricks, it would be better to check if the feature is currently enabled. Now you can check if it appears in the printer list. If you find it is already enabled but still not working, you may try turn it off, then turn it on after rebooting.
You can uninstall the Microsoft Print to PDF device and reinstall it again to make the option available as your printer destination device.
This process might seem a bit trickier but you can follow these simple steps to guide yourself out of the trouble. Any other ideas on how to resolve this issue or do I just need to format the disk and reinstall from scratch?
Not sure when these printers disappeared. They aren't used too often on this system. Attachments: Up to 10 attachments including images can be used with a maximum of 3. Sorry, probably coming a little late to the game here. Had the exact same iss with Windows server. We ended up removing all installed patches applied in and the problem disappeared. We then applied April cumulative update and all worked still. Was applying June updates when I left the office.
Please run the command get-hotfix via PowerShell on the faulty win10 to see if there is an update installed recently? For now, please compare the drive folder permissions and drive file content of Microsoft Print to PDF and XPS Document Writer in your machines and whether these is the same as the normal Windows10 20H2 based on the figure below.
Comparing the XPS folder permissions to the provided looks the same on my end as you have shown. If so, please completeness check whether the files and their sub-files in the following path are the same as those displayed in a working fine win10 20H2 computer?
Please confirm that Microsoft print to pdf and Microsoft xps docuemt writer drivers display in the list.
